Will Dixon, Professor of Digital Epidemiology at the University of Manchester

In this video, Will discusses how, through the use of the uMotif app, his study was able to explore the impact of the weather on pain symptoms.

Will describes how the study managed to recruit over 13,000 participants, who then tracked their symptoms through their smartphones, using the uMotif app. In addition to this, the app was able to use patients’ phones GPS to link to local weather data, which enabled the study to determine whether local weather was having an impact on the severity of patients’ symptoms.

In this video, Will discusses the results of the study and what types of weather had the strongest correlation with worsening symptoms, with the hope that this will lead to new types of treatment in the future.
